Lorien Trust Sanctioned Events
All events run under the Lorien Trust Sanctioned Event system will use similar methods to those detailed above for identifying referees and distinguishing between different levels of referee. All events run under this system will also have a Lorien Trust sanctioning officer in attendance to answer any rules queries that may arise furing the event.

Money.

There are three types of coins in use in the Lorien role playing system, of which the lowest denomination is the quarter, or copper. Four quarters make one stell, or silver and four stell make one gold.

All players at Lorien Trust events are given an amount of in character money, dependant on which events they attend.

The amount of money issued to each player for each event is listed below.

The Heartland Games: Two stell

A Faction Moot: Two stell

The Gathering: Three stell

There are many ways to earn extra money, from running errands to monstering or purchasing occupational income skills.

Lorien Trust coinage looks like this:

Older, round coins are also available in the system. These have a lower valuation; current exchange rates will be posted by the Bank of Erdreja at all Lorien Trust events.

Coin Forgery.
The Lorien Trust provides coins to be used at their events. These shape and design of these coins are out of character trademarks of Merlinroute Ltd. No part of these designs may be reproduced by any means, save with the written permission of Merlinroute Ltd. Any person performing any unauthorised act in relation to these designs may be liable to prosecution and claims for damages.

Laminated Cards.

The Lorien Trust uses laminated cards ('lammies') to indicate special creatures, items and powers. If you think you have a forged lammie, take it to Games Control and ask for assistance.

All special creatures and characters with special powers are issued with a lammie. This usually states their character name and always details their abilities. Most special items are issued with two cards, an item card, which states the name of the item and lists the lore codes appropriate to that item and an item powers card, which details the effects of the item. Some types of special item, such as weapons, are only issued with an item card. Special creatures and characters with special powers must carry their lammie with them at all times, although the card does not have to be visible. All item cards should be attached to an appropriate phys. rep. in such a way as to be easily visible in a battle situation. The owner of an item must always carry the item powers card for their item (if appropriate), although this does not have to be visible.

Special creature and special powers cards which state the character's name can be replace if lost, but any that do not state the character's name will not be replaced. Lost item powers cards can be replaced, but lost special item cards cannot. If you lose the special item card for your item you will be assumed to have lost the item in character. As a general rule, any card that carries lore codes will not be replaced if lost.

If you are unsure of an ability or item someone has used, either ask politely to see their card or that of the item or ask a referee to check the card for you. All cards must be produced for inspection by a referee upon reques

On-Use Items.
Potions, poisons and items with a limited number of charges have tear-off strips attached to their item powers cards. Each time the item is used one strip must be torn off. When there are no strips left the all charges within an item or doses of a potion or poison have been used up. The item card should then be handed to a referee.

Scrolls & Glyphs.
Scrolls do not have cards attached to them but will have an expiry date, signature, and an official stamp on them. Some also have printed lore codes. Scrolls and glyphs must be torn in half when used. If the effect on the scroll or glyph has a duration, the time and date of activation must be marked on the card or scroll by a referee. Scrolls and glyphs of effects that have a duration must be torn in half once the duration has expired. All scrolls and glyphs must be torn in half as soon as they have passed their expiry date, even if they have not been used. The spell or incantation contained within the scroll or glyph takes effect exactly as its description says and treats the person who invoked the item as the caster in all cases. Any character with the invocation skill and literacy can use scrolls and glyphs. All restrictions as to the target remain and must be obeyed. For example, paladin's armour is a 3rd level incantation that may only be cast on incantors. A mage may cast this incantation from a glyph but the target must be an incantor.

Mastercrafted Items.
Mastercrafted items are able to take withstand two shatter spells. These items may be repaired after the second shatter using the mend spell as normal, however items repaired in this way will no longer count as mastercrafted. A mastercrafted weapon will have a single tear-off strip on its item powers card. This strip must be torn off to ignore a shatter spell cast on the item. You should call 'mastercrafted' as you tear the strip, to indicate that the shatter has been resisted. Once this strip has been torn off the item is treated as normal for any further shatter spells directed at it.

Theft and Change of Ownership.
When an item has been stolen in character it must be taken to Games Control as soon as possible. In order to prevent accusations of out of character theft, both the original owner and the new owner of the item should go to Games Control, with both the original and new phys. reps. If you have stolen an item in character, you must not remove any lammies from the item yourself. The staff at Games Control will remove the item card and register you as the new owner of that item. They will then put the lammie on a suitable phys. rep. that belongs to you and, if necessary, hold the old phys. rep. for collection by the original owner. A special powers card does not signify ownership of an item, nor does possession of any special item card that is torn or damaged, or is not attached to a phys. rep. Any special creature or powers cards that have a character's name on them represent abilities innate to that character and cannot be stolen. If you have lost an item that was carded, ask at Games Control to see if your phys. rep. has been handed in during a change of ownership. If Games Control have not received your item, report the loss at the security point. The security staff will take your details and will make every effort to inform you when your item is found. It is often worth allowing a little extra time for your item to reach Games Control and be registered for change of ownership before reporting your loss to Security.

Searching.
In character searches may be performed, but they must follow the guidelines below. Players found breaking the search guidelines may be asked to leave site.
A thorough search of one in character location requires thirty seconds of concentration. A thorough search of all in character locations requires three minutes of concentration. When searching a location, the searcher must hold one hand at least six inches above the location being searched for thirty seconds. During this time they must tell the person being searched that they are performing an in character search (the searcher must also say if they are using the locate skill on the location being searched). If all in character locations are being searched, the searcher must hold one hand at least six inches above each location in turn for thirty seconds per location and must tell the person being searched if they are using the locate skill on a particular location. At no time may the searcher make any physical contact with the person being searched.

Out of character items that are found during an in character search may not be stolen. Players found to be stealing out of character items in this way will be asked to leave site and the appropriate authorities will be informed. All players using these searching rules (whether to search or be searched) are asked to be fair and honest when looking for or revealing items.

Charity Lammies.
The Lorien Trust takes requests each year for 'charity lammies'. These look identical to an ordinary lammie, but have no in character effect. A small charge is levied for the production of these lammies and the proceeds are given to charity. Charity lammies can be produced for almost anything; your imagination is the only real limit although, as usual, you are asked to avoid requesting charity lammies that may be offensive to others.

Becoming a Special Creature.
Every year, the Lorien Trust receives many requests for special creatures from players and a limited number of these requests are granted. All players are welcome to submit a request for a special creature to head office (see page five of this rulebook for the address), but please be aware that due to the number of requests received many have to be refused. Some categories of request are automatically refused for reasons of game balance, for example requests for powers that are considered excessive, requests for more than two or three abilities and requests for any ability that is restricted. No background or explanation, however good, will allow you to play a special creature with abilities that would unbalance the game. The Lorien Trust imposes a minimum age of fourteen for most special creature requests, although each special is judged on a case by case basis and some younger players may be permitted a special creature. Before submitting your request for a special creature, make sure that you are not asking for an ability that can be role-played without a special creature card. Most backgrounds and character concepts do not require special creature status; they can be role-played at least as effectively without (if everybody was a special creature, they wouldn't be a special).
