What do I do once I arrive at an event?

Once you have made your choice to attend a main event. Bought your tent, a sleeping bag, and remembered to pack you can opener. Thought about your character, costume, weapons. Or bought, borrowed, or you have made them. Alternatively, packed extra money in your wallet to buy the above mentioned costume and weapons from the available traders. You need to know what to do once your at the event.

This is actually quite simple, if you prebook for the event you will receive your ticket and character card in the post before the event. Please remember these must be carried at all times. If you're not this organised or sure you will attend and turn up on the day at an event it's still simple. In both cases you must come to the manned and signposted main gate, where your ticket will be processed. Remember, if you wish, you can turn up to main Lorien Trust events from the Thursday afternoon, but there is an additional camping charge.

If you've not prebooked you will be asked to complete a form with all your details and some basic character information. If at this point you're still not sure of your character, skills, faction and group, don't worry!. Once you have completed this form and paid for the event, you will be given a ticket which you must keep on you at all times.

At the gate you will also be given a security wristband that will be fitted by a member of staff. These are a security measure to prove that you have paid and must not be removed. You will then be asked to go and set up your tent in the appropriate camp of your choice. If you are paying on the gate, you will be also directed to the Event Control Desk in the main area. If you have still not chosen a faction we do have a guest camp or you can come straight to the desk for some advice. If you have paid on the gate please read the paragraph marked with a double star**

** At Event Control, the stub will be removed from your ticket for reference. You will be given a blank character card to complete. This card is a tick box card with all the available skills. This card will then be processed and laminated for you to keep. You must keep this on you with your ticket at all times. You will be given an Occupational Skill Point (OSP) token of the relevant value and the appropriate in-character income for that event. The Event Control staff can answer any questions you may have on factions, skills or a multitude of other queries. Once you have completed this, you will be directed to your appropriate camp.

Once you've found your camping area and you are new to the faction and not just the event, there will be members of faction command or the faction set up crew to direct you were to put your tent and offer advice. It is always best to introduce yourself to these people then they can help you. The faction command are the NPCs (Non Player Characters) who run your faction and who you will want to talk to in-character, so get to know them. The faction set-up crew are generally more experienced players who will be able to help you get involved and offer you some advice. You may want to locate a group you have made contact with as a new member to introduce yourself to them and also generally, groups camp together.

Setting up your tent. Things to consider when doing this are space and safety. For the safety of others and yourself, do not set up too close to anyone else's tent also for fire safety, the tent should generally be far enough away that the guide ropes do not cross. This space also makes it safer to cross between tents and gives slightly more privacy.

Once you have set up your tent, something to consider is disposal of rubbish. There are bins at the events but it makes sense for you to have a black bag for your own rubbish. This should be tied to your guide rope to stop it blowing away. Cooking. If you intend to cook for yourself, remember to leave space in front of your tent to set up the stove you have brought with you. You may want to look a the Lorien Trust Rules and Regulations.

Once you have finished setting up your own space, why not see if the faction set up crew need any additional help. It's a good way to meet people and get known. Alternatively, if you're slightly late you may want to just get into the costume and wander about. Some advice on places to go and things to do are answered in the next section of the new players area.
