Militia Guild

 

 

The Militia are enforcers of the laws of the Gathering Treaty and the advocates of justice. The Militia acts to regulate events such as the Gathering and Moots, where many Factions meet, as agreed by the hosting Faction and other Factions in attendance. With differing laws covering the many kingdoms, the job of a Militia guard is never easy.

The Guild of Militia was founded with the establishment of the Gathering Treaty back in 1092. The initial ranks of the Militia were drawn from the neutral garrison of Norhault, led by Lord Garth. However the difficulties they have had in establishing themselves have proved torturous in the extreme.
The terms of the Gathering Treaty have always required some form of legal body to enforce them. However, since the Gathering Treaty has always been the beginnings of a peace agreement rather than the peace agreement itself, the Factions have often quarrelled and fallen out over many matters. It is during these times that the Militia Guild finds it's position most difficult. The Militia must steer a course of neutrality between the vested interests of the Factions themselves, and attempt to preserve the cause of justice and fairness. A further complication lies in the differences of Faction laws, and deciding which law might take precedence in each individual case. No, the life of a Militia Guildsman, is not an easy one.

During the Heartland Games, Moots and Gathering, the Guild maintains a detention area for the punishment of petty criminals. Should matters of a more serious nature arise, then the Guild will act in conjunction with the hosting nation of the event to pursue the dictates of law and justice. For the rest of the year, the Guild acts to offer advise to local militia and sheriffs over matters of law and order, as well as offering itself as a neutral party when the pursuit of criminals might cross the border of a different nation.
Members of the Militia Guild are bound by codes and oaths upon acceptance of their membership, and achievement of rank in the Guild hierarchy. These oaths also grant them access to the Guilds magical items, and specialised training. In many respects, the martial abilities taught by the Militia are somewhat similar to those provided by the Armourers Guild. However, the focus is more on the needs of good policing, and security.

 The Milita guild is the ideal place for those who wish to strive to make things better in the lands of Erdreja. They also give you the chance to learn some of the skills used in this for yourself using the Lorien Trust Role Playing Occupational Skill Points System or OSP's.
